The first phase of the training was intended to get my heart/cardiovascular system ready and establish a baseline for the major muscles. The next phase is all about building technique, speed, and endurance.
Some stats from phase 1:
Resting Heart Rate before: 68 bpm
Resting Heart Rate After: 59 bpm
Weight Before: 259
Weight After: 247
Total Calories Burned (according to my HR monitor): 48,312 (that's 14 lbs which means w/o the exercise I'd have gained 2 lbs!)
Total time spent working out: 81 hours
Average HR during exercise: 130 bpm
Average Max HR during exercise: 170 bpm
Average calories burned per minute: 10
Overall I'm happy with my progress. I tell everyone my goals for the triathlon are 3:
1-don't die
2-finish
3-don't completely embarrass myself
In reality I have a secret 4th goal: Finish with a respectable time.
I'm getting a bike this weekend (assuming there's no snow again and work can leave me alone) and have already started my morning runs. Master's Swim class at the gym should also start this week.
Here's the new workout schedule for the next 6 weeks. Notice that my cardio is now twice/day, morning and evening. Also, I added a column on the left side where I have to track how long it takes me to complete a run/bike course. Then I have to shorten that time!
On the upside, for triathlon training I'm encouraged to eat carbs! Gotta focus on my goal: food...
YAY! More food! I'm already tired of all this second-hand dieting. :P
